Well that was an odd noise.
ZX2 Serpentine Belt Routing

This image was posted originally to the TeamZX2 forums, but I suck at searching forums, so I’m leaving it here for the next time I need it.
The tensioner slackens with clockwise rotation. 13mm socket thingamajigger. Have gotten two belts (one worn that popped off, and a new one) on via leaving the crank pulley for last. A jack is helpful. Small hands and thin arms are very helpful; I cringe at what the internals of modern cars look like given that they were building for midget mechanics in ’98. Ideally, get a second pair of hands to hold the tensioner in place while you struggle to get the belt around the final pulley.
Image probably applies to multiple years, but I’ve a ’98 ZX2, so your mileage may vary.
Note: Still working out comments/etc. theming. Please ignore the ugliness.
