Seeing as how it’s 2010, it’s time to reveal my New Year’s resolutions for the year. Not much has changed from last year. First and foremost on my list are:

1. Lose (more) weight – 40 pounds down, 20-30 to go.

2. Quit smoking. Ugh.

3. Get drunk far more often.

New addition this year: learn how to use my digital camera. After reading up on picture graininess (my most hated enemy) while on the can, I quickly flushed, washed my hands, and then grabbed Kos V4 off of my shelf – she’d been sitting there for like a year and a half.

I dare say my camera-fu has improved. At any rate, I present:

Glad I stuck with the moderately priced Canon PowerShot SX100 IS when I was in the market a few years back. I was actually considering going DSLR at the time, but the price kept pushing me back – hell, the price of the SX100 IS put me out at the time. Still, it’s not a bad camera by any means – even with my complete ineptitude at photography, it massacred my old PowerShot S100. Not to mention, I’m improving by leaps and bounds just by occasionally reading a FAQ once every six months. The SX100 IS is, frankly, probably still more camera than I need or deserve.

Tonight after cleaning out an office, I demanded cheezburgr. A few minutes later, my business partner and I were at In-n-Out. From what I understand, In-n-Out is owned by uber-religious people of the freedom-hating variety. But hey, they make a damned good cheezburgr.

Anyhow, I went to snap a quick picture of the cheezburgrz involved. I figure I need as much pictorial evidence as I can gather as to why I shouldn’t remain in Pennsylvania. I power on my Powershot SX100 IS and… Lens error, please restart camera. Beep beep beep. No power.

Restarting the camera several times, of course, did nothing. Upon returning to my present home away from home, I finished my fries while checking out the camera – noticed the shutters weren’t closing. Springs/whatever were fine; the shutters could be manipulated closed, but simply weren’t closed.

Gah.

The solution is simple though: Immediately after hitting the power button, smack the camera decently hard on its left side. With little luck involved, you’ll soon hear your lens making it’s normal lens-like zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt sound.

I freaking love technology.
